I've read all six Harry Potter books and I've always marvelled at J K's imagination in making up a whole new world for magic. I thought the books started to have too much death in it and stopped recommending it for very small children. The sixth book however I felt she let us know exactly how the series will end. This book was awesome. Again she has touched on another topic it is sometimes difficult for children to deal with, death. It seems unfair to critisize someone with guts to help kids confront these issues. I think it was a great twist to the serious and can hardly wait for the next one! - Sonya , posted 08/29/05 |

J. K. Rowling has yet to write a bad Harry Potter book. But compared to HP & the Order of the Phoenix it seemed 'light'. Not badly written, not badly plotted but less comples and less dark than the previous book. To my mind this book depended more heavily than usual on the book that preceded it. Reading the 'Prince' without reading 'Phoenix' would have been disappointing and perhaps frustrating. Despite the caveats I have given, I do recommend the 'Prince'. J. K. Rowling is an excellent author and Harry and his friends are fascinating characters. If you haven't read any of the series, start with the first and read all of them.
